Malsis Hall Staff Supported to Undertake Nursing Associate Course at University of Bradford

Malsis Hall, located in Glusburn near Keighley, is continuing to nurture top care sector talent by supporting three of its colleagues to undertake a Nursing Associate course at the University of Bradford.

The Foundation Degree in Science at the Faculty of Health Studies was created in response to the increasing demand for the Nursing Associate role within the healthcare system.

The Nursing Associate role is pivotal in supporting registered nurses to ensure that service users and their families receive high-quality, compassionate care. The programme prepares individuals to work as registered nurse associates, delivering and evaluating hands-on care.

Stephanie Clayton, who has worked at Malsis Hall for two years, shares her journey: “I started at Malsis Hall as a Recovery Worker and was promoted to Senior Recovery Worker after six months. With the additional responsibilities, I gained deeper insights into mental health conditions, care planning, and medication.

“This sparked my interest and determination to further my career in nursing. Since starting the course in January, I’ve gained more knowledge and skills by working closely with my assessor and nurses on shifts, completing my first placement, and conducting research to understand both mental and physical health.”

Dan Bannan, another participant in the programme, has been with Malsis Hall for nearly three years. He explains: “I was attracted to the programme because it allowed me to learn and earn simultaneously. Doing this at Malsis Hall enabled me to keep up with the physical care skills I already had while enhancing my theoretical knowledge at University. My ultimate goal is to become a nurse, and this programme is broadening my understanding of how care is assessed, managed and implemented and facilitating the increased responsibilities I’m getting through practical experiences.”

Sally-Anne Redhead, Registered Manager at Malsis Hall, commented on the career progression and training opportunities available: “We are committed to supporting our staff in their professional development. The Student Nursing Associate Programme offers an excellent pathway for our team members to advance their careers while continuing to provide exceptional care to our service users. It’s rewarding to see Sarah, Stephanie and Dan grow and take on more responsibilities, and we are excited about their future contributions to our team.”

Malsis Hall continues to champion career development and training, ensuring that their staff are well-equipped to meet the evolving needs of the healthcare sector while maintaining the highest standards of care.
